When Too Much Is Actually Depth: Finding the Right Space for What God Has Placed Within You

For the one who has ever felt "too much" in a space that was simply too small—this reflection is for you.

Woman in warm sunlight meditates by a window, golden sparkles around her; text reads When too much is actually depth.

This is a reflection for anyone who has ever felt "too much" in a space that was simply too small.

I've come to realize that when too much is actually depth, the answer isn't shrinking ourselves—it is finding the right environment for what God has placed within us.

There are things I have lived.

There are things I have survived.

There are ways God has revealed Himself to me in seasons where my life required a deeper lens.

My health slowed me down.

My circumstances positioned me inward.

My faith pulled me beneath the surface.

And once you’ve been invited to see life that way...once you’ve had to sit with yourself, your body, your spirit, and God in that kind of intimacy—it’s hard to pretend you haven’t.

I used to ask myself, Why can’t I just keep things light? Why can’t I speak on the surface like everyone else?

But what I know now is this: depth is not a flaw...it’s a calling.

What I labeled as “too much” was actually something yearning for placement.

When Too Much Is Actually Depth and the Wrong Container Makes You Feel Excessive

Here’s the realization that changed everything:

I wasn’t too much.

I was pouring myself into containers that were never meant to hold me.

Small spaces will always make fullness feel excessive.

Shallow rooms will always label depth as overwhelming.

And that’s not a reflection of your worth, it’s a reflection of capacity.

Silhouetted person crouches in a dark narrow tunnel, head in hand, backlit by a bright opening, creating a tense mood.

This is where discernment comes in.

Yes, there is a time to honestly assess ourselves, to make sure we’re not operating from armor, fear, or learned behavior. But when you’ve done that work, when you’ve looked inward with clarity and humility, and you still arrive at the same truth…

Then the issue is not who you are.

It’s where you are.

From “Am I Too Much?” to “What Is Enough for Me?”

Woman in flowing dress walks toward a glowing sunset by a broken wall and mirror, with self-doubt text: Am I too much?

The turning point came when I stopped asking,“Am I too much?”

And started asking,“What is enough for me?”

What kind of space nourishes my spirit?

What environments allow me to speak without editing my soul?

What rooms can hold both my faith and my honesty—my softness and my strength?

I am no longer interested in shrinking what God has given me to fit places I was never meant to stay.

I don’t need to be less.✨ I need to be placed.

When the Oil Never Runs Out—Only the Containers Do

Golden oil pours into ceramic jars in warm light; text says When the oil never runs out—only the containers do.

There’s a story in Scripture that keeps returning to me—the story of the widow and the oil in 2 Kings 4.

She was given a simple instruction: gather jars. Not a few—but as many as she could find. Empty vessels ready to be filled. And as she poured, the oil kept flowing.

It didn’t slow.

It didn’t diminish.

It didn’t stop.

The oil only ran out when there were no more jars.

And that’s when it clicked for me.

God was never the limiting factor.

The oil was never in question.

The only boundary was capacity.

What if that’s what God is showing us in this season?

That when we do life with Him—when we create, love, build, serve, and show up as our full selves—we will never run out of what He has given us. The wisdom, the creativity, the compassion, the depth, the vision—it’s more than enough.

But the flow is sustained by the containers we choose.

If the space is too small, the oil looks like “too much.”

If the environment is limited, the overflow feels overwhelming.

Not because we are excessive—but because we’ve outgrown the vessel.

This isn’t about striving or proving. It’s about alignment.

Making sure we are placing ourselves—our gifts, our voices, and our becoming into environments that can actually hold what God is pouring.

The oil didn’t stop because God withheld it.

It stopped because the jars were full.

Honey pours into ceramic jars in warm golden light, with olive branches and a subtle SB monogram.

Maybe that’s the invitation for us too: to stop shrinking the oil and start expanding the containers.

“When all the jars were full, she said to her son, ‘Bring me another one.’But he replied, ‘There is not a jar left.’Then the oil stopped flowing.”2 Kings 4:6

When Faithfulness Looks Like “Too Much”

From the outside, faithfulness can look like excess.

When we actively use the gifts God has given us our creativity, insight, compassion, vision—it can appear as though we have “so much.”

But Scripture reminds us that this isn’t self-made abundance.

It’s God's multiplication.

In the parable of the talents (Matthew 25:14-30) , those who invested what they were given were entrusted with more—not because they were better, but because they were faithful.

The only loss came from burying what was given.

Warm devotional still life with books, mug, open journal, jars pouring gold light, and text about faithfulness and multiplication.

That’s the distinction.

When we use our gifts in alignment with God’s purpose, He expands our capacity to steward more for His kingdom. What feels like “too much” to others is often the visible evidence of obedience.

And as that increase comes, it requires environments, containers that can hold the growth without asking us to shrink.

Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful with a few things;I will put you in charge of many things.Matthew 25:21
Seven women pray around a candlelit table in a warm room, with wall text lets PRAY ABOUT IT and books.

Let's Pray About It:

Dear Heavenly Father,

We thank You for the awareness You are awakening in us—the truth that we were never too much, but intentionally created and entrusted with gifts from You.

Thank You for the oil You have placed within us. You are our source, and You never run out. Give us discernment to place ourselves in environments that can hold what You are pouring, so our growth is supported and not constrained.

Teach us to steward well the talents You have given us. Give us courage to use what You’ve entrusted to us rather than bury it in fear or shrink it for the comfort of others. As we are faithful, prepare us for the increase that comes with obedience.

Order our steps. Align us with people and spaces that nourish our becoming. When it is time to move, give us peace. When it is time to release, give us grace. And when it is time to expand, give us wisdom.

Let our lives be vessels for Your purpose—never driven by ego, but shaped by obedience, alignment, and trust in You.

In Jesus’ name,

Amen.

A Note from My Heart to Yours

Warm still life of a candle, mug, flowers, cards and pen on a rustic desk, with glowing sparkles and faith quotes.

Sparkle Bestie, let this be your reminder:

you don’t need to dim your light to belong.

You don’t need to make yourself smaller to be sustained.

God’s supply has never been the issue

capacity is.

And don’t be afraid to use the gifts God has given you.

We can’t bury our talents and expect overflow.

What we use, God multiplies.

What we steward with faith, He expands with purpose.

So don’t overlook the one talent in your hands, it may be the very thing God uses to unlock doors you haven’t even imagined yet.

As for your oil, when it begins to overflow, don’t stop pouring.

Don’t shrink the flow to fit familiar spaces.

Instead, pray for specialized containers. Environments, relationships, and assignments that are designed to hold what God is doing now, not what He did before.

Choose spaces that can handle your becoming.

Align yourself with environments that nourish your growth.

And trust that as you move with God, you will never run out, because the oil He has given you is more than enough. ✨
